    Watchlist

    Thursday close (example data)

    Ticker A

What happened: Quarterly results came out after Tuesday's close. Revenue was up on last year and the company raised its outlook for the year. The stock rose about 6% on Wednesday and gave back part of that on Thursday. Source: the company's results release.

Your note on why you watch it: "Subscriptions growing faster than costs."

Against your note: The release says subscription revenue grew faster than total costs this quarter. Costs grew faster than in the last two quarters, mainly hiring.

    Ticker B

What happened: No company news since your last brief. Volume was below its 20-day average.

Against your note: Nothing new to check against.

    Ticker C

What happened: A filing shows a board member sold shares on Monday. Filings like this are common and do not explain the reason. Source: the public filing.

    Scheduled today

    • Ticker B: annual shareholder meeting, 10:00.
    • Monthly jobs report, 08:30.

    For your journal

    1. Ticker A's costs grew faster than before. Does that change your note, or is hiring part of the plan you expected?
    2. You wrote that you would review Ticker B if nothing happened for a month. It has been five weeks. What is your review?
    3. What would you need to see in the next results from Ticker A to stop watching it?

Example

Example session

  1. You

    Morning brief, please.

  2. Claude

Here is this morning's brief for your three tickers. The main item is Ticker A's results on Tuesday; I compared them with the note in your watchlist file. Ticker B had no news, and you asked me to flag it after a quiet month, so it is in the journal questions. I have not suggested any trades.

  3. You

Show me Ticker A's last ten sessions.

  4. Claude

Here is the daily chart, with the results day marked.

Fit

About this item

A research routine, not a tip sheet. Each morning it reads the news on the tickers you already follow, lays out what moved and why, with links, and checks it against the reason you wrote down for watching each one.

It ends with three questions for your trading journal, so the thinking stays yours.

What you get

  • A one-page brief per morning
  • A ten-session chart for any ticker that moved more than usual
  • Three journal questions

Good fit

  • Keeping a research routine and a trading journal

Not for

  • Trade signals or anything that should decide a trade for you

More

Questions

Will it tell me what to trade?
No. It gathers facts, links its sources and asks you questions. The decisions, and the reasons for them, stay in your journal.
Where does the data come from?
Public web pages such as company news, filings and price pages, linked in the brief. Prices can be delayed, so check your broker before acting on anything.
What goes in my watchlist file?
One line per ticker with your reason for watching it. The brief checks each morning's news against that reason.
