Upload a skill to Claude

Add a skill from the library to Claude. Skills are on every plan, including Free, and the upload happens on the web.

A skill is a folder of instructions that Claude loads when a task calls for it, so you stop pasting the same long prompt. Every skill in the library downloads as a zip that is already in the shape Claude wants: one folder, named after the skill, with its SKILL.md inside. Skills are available on the Free, Pro, Max, Team and Enterprise plans.

On your phone

The upload lives on the web, at claude.ai. Anthropic's pages document those steps only; we have not confirmed the phone app or the phone's browser for the upload itself, so if the phone browser does not show it, finish this on a computer. Skills belong to your account, so once one is uploaded and switched on it should be there wherever you sign in.

  1. In the item, tap Download skill. The first time, it asks you to join free with your email. Keep the zip as it is; do not unzip it.
  2. In the phone's browser, open claude.ai, then Customize, then Skills.
  3. Choose +, then Create skill, then Upload a skill, and pick the zip.
  4. Turn the skill on in the list and start a new chat.

On a computer

  1. In the item, click Download skill. The first time, it asks you to join free with your email. Keep the zip as it is.
  2. At claude.ai open Customize, then Skills.
  3. Choose +, then Create skill, then Upload a skill, and pick the zip. Make sure the skill's switch is on.
  4. Start a new chat and ask for the job the skill does. Claude loads it when the request matches the skill's description; you can also name the skill in your message.

If it does not work

  • No Skills page: skills need Code execution and file creation to be on. It is on by default; check Settings, then Capabilities. On a Team or Enterprise plan an admin turns skills on for the workspace.
  • The upload is refused: the zip must hold the skill folder at its root, with SKILL.md inside, and the folder name must match the skill's name. Our zips are built that way; if you unzipped and re-zipped, download it again.
  • Claude did not use it: say the skill's name in your message, or check the switch beside it on the Skills page.
